Wooden-cased Comptometer

This earliest and simplest Comptometer was produced from 1887 thru 1903. The very first examples are on display at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C. and carry no serial numbers (probably less than 100 unserialized machines were produced). Several dozen wooden case machines seem to have survived with most in private hands. The lowest known "serialized" machine is 61 and on November 17, 2001, was auctioned off on eBay for USD $4388.88. - Brooke W. Boering 'Biography of a Machine'

The wooden-cased model recorded the keystroke on the down-stroke, while all subsequent comptometers recorded it on the up-stroke.
