2140 The Scribola, a portable
printing adding machine, was manufactured by Ruthard &
Co. in Stuttgart, circa 1922. This is an early model (patent
pending), serial number 2140. Numbers are entered by using a
stylus to pull each individual rack down to the crosspiece
at the bottom, and amounts are printed by depressing the
lever on the right. The lever on the left is used to
disengage the calculating mechanism so that the total can be
printed. The machine is reset to zero by depressing the
'arresting lever' and pulling the zero-position lever on the
right.
